Lakes Retreat 2024: Dogs, Cameras, and Creative Community in the Heart of the Lake District

You know it’s going to be a good week when your accommodation has a games room, your hosts have chefs in the family, and your daily schedule includes sunrise lakes, moody caves, and epic dog models.

The 2024 Lakes Retreat by That Photography Spot brought together an international crew of MTogs — passionate pet photographers from around the world — for four packed days of photography, learning, and landscape-fuelled magic in England’s Lake District.

One of the biggest highlights? A seven-hour image review and learning session — yes, really. Guided by the That Photography Spot team, we dissected, discussed, and explored every frame, every choice, every opportunity for growth.

It was intense, inspiring, and full of the kind of feedback that stays with you long after the trip ends. It definitely wasn’t meant to be that long though…

Our models for the week? Absolute stars. We had:

  • Amber & Django, the ever-dramatic looking dalmatians,

  • Alfie & Piper, two beautifully expressive collies, Alfie who’s an old pro, and Piper who works for days.

  • Bryt, an action-loving spaniel,

  • and Ren, a young Malinois with serious presence.

Each one brought something special to the scenes — from windswept moments on open moorland to soft, thoughtful portraits in woodland light.

Why Retreats Like This Matter

The Lakes Retreat wasn’t just about the landscapes (though they were incredible). It was about community. A group of like-minded creatives — many of us solo photographers in our day-to-day lives — coming together to learn, laugh, create, and grow.

We climbed a lot of hills. We took a lot of photos. We shared snacks, ideas, and sunrise coffees. And we left with full memory cards, and lifelong friendships.

If you’re a dog photographer craving new challenges, creative fuel, and the chance to work alongside some of the best in the business — keep your eye on That Photography Spot.

These retreats are more than just trips. They’re transformational.
